It is our honor to
invite you to the University Library “Svetozar Markovic” to the Students’ Day on April 4th at 11 a.m. to the opening of “Mala
prostonarodna digitalna čitaonica” when we will start to provide new library
services to the Serbian academic community.
The unusual name of our
new space represents historical reminiscences of Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic’s
efforts which date back to 1814.
A special digital
collection of anti-revisionist literature about the First World War containing 16,000 digitised pages will be presented on this occasion. In addition, the
visitors will be introduced with the first fully searchable corpus of digitized
historic newspaper texts with more than 400,000 pages in Serbian Cyrillic from
the period between the turn of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
Starting from April 4th we will provide our users with new technological tools for easier
and more efficient use of library services. We have prepared an Android App which shows available seats in the Library’s reading rooms and we have also
provided wireless Internet access which covers the whole building.
We would like to
emphasize that in these chaotic times University Library “Svetozar Markovic” is
a mother institution to all higher education libraries in Serbia. As such it is not only open to students and
researchers from the University of Belgrade, but also to students and teachers
from all Serbian universities who are willing to improve their knowledge and to
do independent research. All of them can become the members of the University
Library “Svetozar Markovic”.
