
A free training for all visitors interested in open access online education will be organized
every hour starting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on March 10th and 11th,
Monday and Tuesday, in the Education center of the University Library “Svetozar
Markovic”. Open course ware of the most renowned world universities, from the
recordings of lectures to the complete courses, will be presented to the
public. In addition to that, the possibilities of earning a certificate at the
prominent institutions will be explained.
“Introduction to
Ancient Greek History” a lecture by professor Donald Kagan will be presented for the first time with Serbian subtitles on Wednesday, March 12th at 6 p.m. on the first floor of the University Library “Svetozar Markovic”.
On March 13th,
Thursday, at 7 p.m. at the Roman Hall of the Belgrade City Library, Adam
Sofronijevic, Head of Development and System Administration, Digitization and
Cultural Activities Department of the University Library, will present the
concepts of open access education, open education ware and massive online open
courses. Moreover, he will explain how all interested people can access high
quality open online education which is offered by the prestigious world
universities. After that, “Introduction to Ancient Greek History” a lecture by
professor Donald Kagan with Serbian subtitles will be presented.
On March 14th,
Friday, at 12 p.m., at the hall of the branch of the Library Milutin Bojic in Borca,
there will be a public discussion about the opportunities provided by open
education. In addition to that, there will be a presentation of the lecture “Introduction
to Ancient Greek History” by professor Donald Kagan with Serbian subtitles.
On March 15th,
Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the boardroom at the Faculty of Philology, the PhD
students will be presented with the opportunities provided by open access
education. “Introduction to Ancient Greek History” a lecture by the professor
Donald Kagan with Serbian subtitles will be presented to the students.
Profesor Kagan’s
lecture is a part of the Open
Yale course called Introduction to Ancient Greek History. University
Library “Svetozar Markovic” in cooperation with the International Academic
Center and Volunteer Club of the University Library translated into Serbian 24
lectures from this course so as to make them available to the Serbian public
and it provided effective access to these materials regardless of the knowledge
of English.
The cooperation
of the aforementioned institutions will provide an opportunity for Serbian
people to listen to the professor Donald Kagan, one of the most renowned
present-day historians. His lecture traces the ancient roots of the Western
civilization which originated from Ancient Greece and it voices the need to
study them in order to grasp the essence of the present and to improve it.
